Nobody seems to like immigrants....

Nat: It’s weird to think Polish and Czech people are like us.

Tzu Lee: Lost me there Nat. What you mean babe?

Nat: Well although they’re white and everything… they seem to get treated like we do…

Bal: We…? Who’s we?

Nat: Black and Asian and Chinese people. People who some white people think don’t belong here.

Bal: Yeah, right, just more of these immigrants.

David: I’ve heard that some people … well they sort of get a person to say something.. y’ know if they think might be like Polish or something…. then when they hear the accent they insult them.

Bal: I see, they can’t tell by their colour, so they try another way.

Tzu Lee: It’s just like when our parents came, blame the immigrants for everything….

Nat: Unemployment, bad housing…

Bal: Waiting lists at hospitals…

Nat: Crime…

David: Disease…

Tzu Lee: Global warming…

Bal: The price of toothpaste…

Nat: It’s the unemployment thing that gets me. We went to that big vegetable farm, you know, for our project…

David: Yeah, and the manager there said the immigrant workers are doing jobs that didn’t used to be there, so they aren’t taking anyone’s jobs!

Nat: Plus there aren’t enough people around here to do the work, even if they wanted to work 60 hours a week picking lettuces.

David: I just don’t get it, really. There’s not many people out of work around here, but if new workers come from another country, people start going on about them taking jobs.

Tzu Lee: Well, you wouldn’t want a few facts to get in the way of a nice easy prejudice, would you?
