The best Gurudwara in the world is called the Golden Temple, and it's in a place called Amritsar in India. It's got a gold roof and it's all built of white marble, and the main building is in this pool of water in the middle. It's the most important place in our religion. Obviously other Gurudwaras aren't the same!

Gurudwaras in Britain have to be built and kept going by the money that Sikhs give to them, so there's always a collection box up at the front. Sometimes they are old churches or some other building that's already got a hall.

There's always a rack or somewhere to put your shoes, because you must never wear shoes in a gurudwara. You also have to cover your head.

Usually there aren't many pictures or decorations, though there are sometimes paintings of our 10 Gurus, like some Christian churches have saints. Most gurudwaras I've been to have got coloured streamers and lights.

Usually men sit at one side and women on the other, so they don't distract each other. But there aren't any special places for particular people, no-one is supposed to be more important than anyone else.
