 What's a synagogue?
Synagogues are usually quite plain buildings. You can usually tell what they are from the six pointed Star of David which they have outside, usually with a few words of Hebrew.
The word synagogue comes from a Greek word that means ‘to gather together’, which makes sense `cos that’s what we do there. You can see this is a building for ceremonies and things, with all the seats fixed and some obvious special places, but it’s also a kind of community centre too and a place where people study the religion.
