My mum worked as a nurse in the hospital there from about 1960, when she'd seen an advert back home in Barbados saying 'come and work in Britain - we need you'.

I don't really know about this patois that Danielle and her friends are on about. We used to speak that way back home in Barbados and my Mum used to speak it whenever she was with other black people, but she told us off if we didn't talk, like, proper English. She's retired now and living in Barbados.
