I really hate it when people assume refugees like me are lying. People accuse us, they say we did not really need asylum here, we just fancied coming for an easier life. You see it in the papers a lot, the idea that if people are suffering elsewhere it’s just too bad.
To me it’s like… well, it’s like if you were on the water in a small boat, and you came across some people drowning because their boat had sunk….
Would you say to them “I think you just sunk your boat on purpose, because ours is a bit better. There is room, but no you can’t come aboard. Go ahead and drown”. Would you say that? |
